FROM THE CAPTAIN
Season's Greetings

Welcome to the 30th issue of our Monthly Newsletter!  From humble beginnings it has grown to become a key element of our communication strategy and a primary source of information for our members.  Our newsletter is also part of our marketing campaign and it is distributed internationally as a way of letting potential visitors know what is happening at the club.  We need to find new ways of drawing players to play our course and by getting our name out there, we are creating awareness.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the Classic Festival week.  By all accounts the Ladies Open, Seniors Classic and Bellville Classic were all very successful and the comments from members and visitors alike were all extremely positive.  Well done – EVERYBODY!

On a personal note I would like to wish all of the club’s staff and all our members a wonderful festive season.  For those of you that are travelling, be safe on the roads and enjoy your break. To those of you spending the holidays at home, have a good rest and be sure to schedule plenty of golf (anyone looking for a fourth during the holidays; give me a call.)  > Afrikaans

FROM THE OFFICE
Message from GM

Christmas has come around once more. It is a season of great rejoicing, a day for giving and sharing. Let this day be a day of stocktaking, let us go about giving love and compassion to all. Let us serve the poor and the broken ones.

“Blessed are those who can give without remembering and take without forgetting.” Elizabeth Bibesco

With these few words I wish all Members a loving Christmas and a happy New Year full of prosperity.

LADIES SECTION
Ladies Open Day

Our Ladies Open Day on 3 November 2011 was “uniformly” outstanding! As always, the success of the day was made possible by the special members of Bellville who once again gave generously of their time and energy. They deserved all the accolades that we received from returning as well as new visitors to our open day. Their effort showed in, amongst others, the spirit that they brought to the day, dressing to the theme of “UNIFORMS” and the fantastic table decorations.

Our external sponsors were Forsdicks Tygervalley, The Pro Shop Willowbridge, Distell, Glacier, Fresh Produce and Personal Trust. Thanks also to Chris and his staff for their part in making the day a memorable one.

The final Bellville Mixed of the year, sponsored by Senekal Allen & Partners, was held on Sunday 27 November 2011. Our thanks to Frans Senekal for the generous sponsorship of our Christmas Mixed Day. We couldn’t do it without you, Frans. Thanks also to our regular sponsors and supporters of the past year.

We look forward to seeing you all in great health and spirit in 2012!

SENIORSEKSIE
Seniors bly aktief

> English

CLUB NEWS
Audi N1 Centre Bellville Classic

The 19th Bellville Classic was held on 5 November.  Audi N1 Centre were the title sponsor of the event for the fifth consecutive year and we appreciate their support.  If anyone is looking for a new vehicle, mention our name. We also wish to thank each of our other sponsors for their continued support.

The event was, as usual, fully booked (well done Goema!) The course was in outstanding condition thanks to Hendri and the team!  For a change the conditions in the afternoon were easier than in the morning and this saw some great scoring.  The winners of the event, on an outstanding Alliance score of 101 points were the team of Johan Stander, MC van Deventer, J Liebenberg & M Barnes.

The give-aways, meals, hospitality on the course and prizes to 30th place makes our Classic outstanding value for money and one of the best in Cape Town.  Well done to the Classic Committee of Carl Potgieter, Vic Storkey, Gavin Peirone, Johan Stander, Sharon van Schalkwyk, Goema Hewitt, Madeleine Campher and Chris Diedericks. We love it when a plan comes together!

We have two fund-raising events a year for the club.  The Classic and the Captain’s Challenge are important as part of our financial planning and we appreciate the contributions made by our members the friends of the club.  The 2nd Annual Captain’s Challenge will be held in March so keep your eyes on the notice board for more information. > Afrikaans

Santam Winter-Uitklopreeks

> English

HNA Update: Handicap Calculations Changes

New Handicap Calculation changes will be implemented with effect from 1 November, 2011.  The South African handicap system is broadly based on international handicap systems, but more closely aligned with the American USGA System.

The South African Golf Association (SAGA) and Handicaps Network Africa (HNA), have canvassed both the golfers and the clubs, to establish which aspects of the system they would like to change.

As a result of that feedback, the following changes have been adopted, and will be implemented with effect from the 1st of November 2011.

Further changes are proposed with the aim of aligning the South African system more closely with the USGA system. Prior to any further changes being implemented, the SAGA would like feedback from members and clubs to ensure that the majority of golfers in South Africa are in agreement with the proposed changes. These proposed changes are detailed here.
