FROM THE CAPTAIN
It's Classic Time

The Classic week starts off with the Seniors Classic on Monday, Huis Jabes on Tuesday, an Open Day on Wednesday, the Ladies Open on Thursday, the Bellville Sports Federation on Friday and the Classic on Saturday 5th. Kindly enquire at the club on availability should you wish to participate in any of these events.
It is hard to believe that 2011 is in the home stretch. Please keep an eye on the notice boards at the club as we try and introduce new events for the holidays for those of us that are staying here for the holidays. Amongst other things we planning a development camp for our juniors; a bring and braai event; a braai for all the 2011 league players and some exciting new club competitions. Let us know if you have any ideas.

Kemal at Glacier Junior Series Final
Last month we told you about our club match play champ, Kemal Palanduz heading off to play in the Sanlam Glacier Series Final at Pecanwood.

WPGU SECTION
WP Mid Amateur
The WP Mid-Amateur team had to dig deep on the last two days of their inter-provincial tournament in Humewood. After losing their first 3 games they were staring relegation in the face but wins over Mpumalanga & Boland on the last 2 days meant they finished the week fourth.
Bellville had two players in the team. Ludwig Schreuder (playing for the fourth consecutive year) did his reputation no harm finishing 7th on the Most Valuable Player log for the tournament and with the second most points in the WP team. Jorrie Jordaan, playing in his first IPT, had a tough week in the foursomes but did earn a credible 2.5 out of a possible 5 points in his singles matches.

Harry Solomon League
The Harry Solomon team faced a huge challenge in the last weekend of pool play needing to beat Atlantis to qualify for the semi-finals.
Unfortunately a 5-3 defeat derailed the plans. This meant a season of played 8; Won 4; Lost 3 and Drew 1. The Rookie of the Year and Player of the Season was the same player; Johan van Vuuren with 6½ points out of a possible 8. The team spirit amongst the Harry Solomon players has been incredible and we would like to thank the players for their commitment throughout the season; you guys know who you are.
Thanks Mervyn Cookson of Metropolitan for sponsoring the team.

Masters League
The Bellville Masters team are back! After an absence of more than 10 years it was great to have a team back in the league. Played 8; Won 3 and lost 5 and a mid-table finish is commendable and we will work on building the squad for next season. Well done guys.
Thanks Richard Camara of Ritchies Restaurant in Panorama for sponsoring the team.
OPENS
Bellville Open
As has become the norm, Bellville players dominated their home Open. Two players Charl du Preez and Werner Theart produced the best scoring of this year's Premier Amateur Tour to separate themselves from the rest of the field.
The morning saw the lead shared between Du Preez and Strand's Dylan Raubenheimer on 4 under 68. They were closely followed by the WP duo of Theart and Delin Erasmus on 69.The afternoon saw Du Preez take control with 5 consecutive birdies from 14 to 18 (he started on the 10th) en route to a 67 and a total of 135. Of the pursuers only Theart took up the challenge, especially after Raubenheimer had a disastrous final nine of 43. Standing on the 14th tee Theart knew he had to make 4 birdies in his final 5 holes. He birdied 14 and then a precise iron on the 16th saw him halfway to his target. An up and down from the bunker for a birdie on the par 5 17th meant a birdie on the drivable final par was all that stood between him and a play off.
His tee shot was just off the green and a reasonable chip saw him require a putt of just under two metres for the unlikely tie-however it was not meant to be as it missed on the low side and so another near miss for Theart. Thus victory for Du Preez meant he joined Claassen, who had a hole on the 7th, as a first time winner on this year's Premier Amateur Tour.
