FROM THE CAPTAIN
Let's Get Involved

There is a Chinese curse that says; “may you live in interesting times”.  We are, indeed, living in “interesting times.”  As a golf club we have a number of challenges facing us.  In the current financial climate it is vital that we identify these and find a way to navigate our way through them.  What we need most is a steady hand.

Congratulations to Chris on being appointed as the General Manager of the club.  The selection panel and the committee have every confidence in his ability to guide the club through these turbulent times and make sure that we grow from strength to strength.  Chris has already proven that he is a ‘Bellville man’ through and through and that he is fully committed to the success of the club.

I am proud, honoured and privileged to move into the role of Captain.  My goal is to continue building on the foundation laid by previous captains and committees and to ensure that Bellville maintains its position as one of the most highly respected and successful golf clubs in the Western Cape.  Tobie le Roux, who moves into the role of vice-captain, has shown that he has great vision and strategies for the club.  I am fortunate to have him and an incredibly strong committee to work with and to guide the long-term strategy of the club.

In closing, I would like to invite all our members to see where they can make a positive difference to the club.  Get involved.

LADIES SECTION
League Matches Concluded

League matches for 2011 have been completed. The A Reserve team had a tough year in a strong group and ended last in their group. The C Reserve team ended fourth in theirs. Our members remain as keen as ever with more players wanting to play league next year. The result is that Bellville has entered three league teams for 2012, one each in the A Reserve, B and C divisions. This is great news considering that we had no league teams during the 2008 and 2009 years. Well done all!

MNet Cares Golf day a Big Success

The golf day on Tuesday 20 September went off well with an eventual field of 78 players. Thanks to the support of the day, Bellville Golf Club raised a total of R9790 for the 2 beneficiaries this year, PinkDrive Breast Cancer and M-NET Naledi Children’s Literacy Project.

Congratulations to the winners of the day, Peter Frey and Johan Botha, who will be flying Bellville’s flag at the national final at Randpark on the 8 November as guests of M-Net Cares, Liberty Medical Scheme and Cloud9Golf.

Sunday Mixed Competition

Please note that the Sunday Mixed scheduled for 23 October has been cancelled due to the clash with the date of the Rugby World Cup. Enjoy celebrating another WIN for the BOKKE! See you for our special Christmas Mixed on Sunday 27 November!

SENIORS SECTION
Seniors Have Their Say

The senior committee and all the members of the senior section would like to congratulate Chris on his appointment as GM of the club. The weather during the last two months has had a major effect on the senior’s playing days and finances. The final of the Senior Knockout will be contested on 10/10/11.  Upcoming events on the Senior calendar:

10 October: Senior club championships in which only club members may participate
31 October: Seniors Classic
14 November: Boere v Souties Competition

Our league team is positioned fourth on the log with two matches still to play. The senior section has had in excess of 3000 rounds played by its members during the last 7 months.  Well done guys.

WPGU SECTION
WP Eindig Tweede by IPT

Harry Solomon League

Bellville’s section in the Harry Solomon league looks like it is going to go down to the wire.  After 6 games we won 3, drawn 1 and lost 2.  The team is currently 3rd in the section and needs to move up a spot in the last 2 games to qualify for the semi-finals. The fact that 22 guys have represented the club already this season shows the depth and team spirit that we have.

Masters League

September was a good month for the Masters team.  We defeated Simon’s Town and Milnerton B to move up the table.  Unfortunately Erinvale withdrew from the league so a possible win went begging.  October started with a game against Durbanville that was tight but we came second.  There are still two games left in the season. The comeback to the Masters league has been very successful and we are confident that the team will grow from strength to strength.

OPENS
Ludwig wins De Zalze Open

Ludwig Schreuder’s preparation for the mid-amateur inter-provincial could not have gone better with a playoff win in the De Zalze Open on Sunday 02 October.  After a bogey-free 68 in the morning a 75 in the afternoon meant a playoff with WP player and rising star from Durbanville, JP Strydom.  Both players made par on 18 the first time but when they replayed the hole Luttie hit a 5 iron to 3 feet and rolled in the putt to secure the title.

Steenberg Ope

Die Steenberg Ope was op Sondag 11 September gespeel.  Bellville se beste spelers was Werner Theart en MG Keyser.  Beide het 4de ge-einding op ‘n telling van 148.

JUNIOR SECTION
Kemal Off To National Final

Kemal Palanduz will be playing in the National Finals of the Sanlam Glacier Junior Series on 08 October 2011 at Pecanwood.  Kemal won the Steenberg event earlier in the year to qualify for the final.  Should he win this event he will play in the Orange Bowl Junior Invitational in Florida, USA.Good luck Kemal – trust your swing, trust your game and remember; we know you can win it!

CLUB NEWS
Visitors (Special Invite) to Sign In

Since the introduction of the Special Invite rate of R135 towards the end of last year, we have seen an increase in members inviting their guests to come and play our course. We thank our members for this.

In order to better manage this incentive and to ensure that it is not abused in future, we respectfully request that all members who bring guests, sign them in on the day.A visitor book will be available in the Proshop for this purpose. We thank you for your cooperation in this regard.

Annual Subscriptions 2012

The letters for the renewal of subscriptions will be posted shortly.  We have kept the increase in subs to a minimum.  As you will appreciate it is a fine balancing act to ensure that we make our membership fees affordable while ensuring that the club remains financially stable.

As mentioned elsewhere in this newsletter there is also the debit order option for those members that prefer paying their membership fees off.If you have any questions or problems please contact the GM, Chris Diedericks, and discuss these with him.

Debit Order Payment Option

We have introduced a debit order payment option for your membership subscriptions, effective immediately.

After the initial payment has been made, the member will be allowed to pay off the balance of his/her annual Subs on a monthly basis by debit order or post-dated cheques.

Handing In of Player Vouchers

In order to avoid players playing without paying and address the issue of players not swiping their cards before play we will, with immediate effect, be implementing a system where ALL players (members and visitors) must hand in their Player Vouchers (received when paying at the Proshop) to the Caddie Master BEFORE play.

This process will be strictly managed in future and your cooperation in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Ad Hoc Golf Days at Bellville

In order to assist our visiting/corporate groups to fill their fields and to provide them with maximum exposure amongst our members, we have started to send details on ad hoc golf days through to our database. We urge our members to look at these opportunities and to support these days.

Not only are corporate/group days one of the club's biggest income streams, they also provide a great opportunity to meet new people, build business relationships and allow you to do your bit for charity.

If you haven't received any of these mailshots and would like to be informed of events, kindly email madeleine@bellvillegolf.co.za.
