At Bellville GC we understand the importance of developing players for the future. We also believe in giving back to the community and creating opportunities for those less fortunate than ourselves.
Golf is one of the only sports in the world where players of all ages and skill levels can compete on an equal footing and our Junior Development Programme aims to introduce a new generation of golfers to the game. The Bellville GC Junior Development Programme is a 20-week programme that we have launched in partnership with Meridian schools. Meridian are a division of Curro Private Schools. Their criteria is that all learners at the Meridian campuses are from previously disadvantaged areas. The members of the Bellville GC Junior Development Programme attend the Meridian School in the Uitzight/Kraaifontein area.
We have also partnered with My Golf Academy (MGA), headed by PGA Professional Lawrence Collen, to assist with the coaching of the juniors.
We identify 4 learners to take part in the programme. The 20-week programme prepares them to play in the Curro National Championships. They attend 2 training sessions per week. One with one of the MGA teaching pros and the other to work on their own game. The sessions will be at Bellville GC or at Wagner’s Driving Range.
We fund our Junior Development Programme through Western Province Golf Union Rand-a-Round programme. We collect this money for every round played at Bellville GC and pay it over to the WPGU who administer the fund.
After a wonderful 2016, we look forward to the start to 2017.
Following two terms of fun and learning at Bellville GC the growing a young member program plans to be even better in 2017, giving the youth of our club a platform from which to learn, play and understand the game whilst being in the environment of the club and its members.
The growing a young member will be up and running again as from Wednesday, January 18.
We encourage all members to get your child/children involved with this program.
Our goal is to grow a strong junior golf squad out of which we will select our junior league teams for the future.
We would like to thank the committee, members, staff and Werner for making the program possible and allowing the children the opportunity to be part of a program to grow them as junior members of Bellville GC.
